Welcome to the UNESCO World Heritage Site

World heritage site is a cultural or natural environment that is considered so unique and valuable that it is considered important to protect. World heritage sites are named by Unesco under the UN. In 2006, the sea of Kvarken was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the High Coast / Kvarken Archipelago World Heritage Area. Merenkurkku archipelago in Finland and Höga kusten in Sweden are the opposites of each other Merenkurkku being low and stony where Höga Kusten is full of high rocky walls.​

Services

Björköby and Svedjehamn harbor offer versatile services and opportunities for nature hikers and day trips. Bodvattnet runt and Långgrundet nature trails depart from Svedjehamn. The paths pass by the Saltkaret lookout tower, which offers great views of the harbor and the sea. In the harbor you can find the summer cafe Salteriet, a swimming area, a craftsman's shop and a camping area opening in summer 2024. The renovated beach suitable for children is only about 500m away on foot.

Björköby village has a museum, miniature golf, an idyllic village shop, an inn and a village church. It is possible to rent bicycles from several points.

Magnificent seascapes, peaceful  atmosphere and great fishing and outdoor opportunities in the unique Merenkurku World Heritage Area.

At the new Svedjehamn campsite, you can stay overnight in your own motorhome or trailer or in tents. Those staying overnight in the area have access to shared sanitary facilities, as well as a kitchen and dining and lounge areas. Upscale Glamping tents are also available for rent. Most of the RV sites are equipped with electric poles.

The Svedjehamn Camping area will open in the summer of 2023. Reservations can be made e.g. via Matkaparkki .
